Speaker Bio
Mrs. Elizabeth A. Scott did not begin her career in education in the traditional fashion. It was by way of substitute teaching that she found her true calling in the field of education. Growing up in the city of Trenton, she attended St. Mary’s Cathedral and McCorriston High School. At the end of her freshman year, she transferred to the Burlington Township School District. The move to Burlington Township had a monumental and long range impact that she would not realize until later in her life. Mrs. Scott is a 1991 graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, with a B.A. in Labor Relations and a minor in African American studies. Upon graduating she began a long
term Middle and High School music teacher substitute position in Burlington Township which served as the epiphany of her true career calling. Her calling was to work with students, staff and community and to make a difference in the lives of people through education. Mrs. Scott decided to enter the New Jersey State Alternate Route program in 1992 and began her career in Burlington Township School District as an elementary school teacher. Always yearning for more knowledge, she entered the Masters degree program for Student Personnel Services and Supervisory Certification program at Rowan University, which was completed in 1996. In 1997,
Mrs. Scott was moved into a Middle School Guidance Counseling position. In 1998, the school district promoted her to a supervisory position. Serving in this capacity, Mrs. Scott has supervised elementary education, social studies, gifted and talented, and visual and performing arts. She has also worked as the district’s 504 coordinator. Mrs. Scott works very closely with new staff and their induction program. In addition to her curricular responsibilities, she has been the district Public Relations Coordinator for the past 14 years. In 2008, Mrs. Scott entered the NJEXCEL program to earn her Principal’s and School Administrator’s certification. In 2015, she
was promoted to the position of Director of Human Resources and Community Relations.
Liz began her Equity, Diversity and Inclusion journey 21 years ago, when Burlington Township was adopted by the state to pilot an DEI program. She refused to let that die when budgetary constraints forced the program to be abandoned. Over the years, Liz has worked diligently to have critical conversations and interactive experiences not only within the schools, but throughout the entire Burlington Township community. Equity, diversity and inclusion is her passion.
