Kathleen Asher is a graduate of Widener University School of Law (J.D. 2000) and The College of New Jersey (B.S. 1992). Ms. Asher joined the NJSBA as Counsel in December of 2017, was promoted to Senior Manager of Legal and Labor Relations in September of 2021 and has served as the Director of Legal and Labor Relations since July, 2023. Ms. Asher oversees the department which provides legal and labor information and guidance to all members as well as training to members at a variety of NJSBA training sessions. After Law School, Ms. Asher joined the Attorney General’s Office in 2000 where her first assignment was representing the New Jersey Department of Education in all of its litigation and administrative matters. After four years, Ms. Asher moved to the Employment Counseling Section for four years where she represented all State Agencies in employment removal matters, grievance arbitrations and unfair labor practices. Thereafter, she joined the New Jersey Department of Corrections where she worked for eight years in the Office of Employee Relations and handled all matters related to Labor Relations and Employee Discipline for the Department’s 9500 employees. Ms. Asher then spent 2 years in private practice and prior to joining NJSBA worked for the Commissioner of the Department of Community Affairs as the Equal Employment Officer, Ethics Liaison Officer, OPRA Custodian and Administrative Practice Officer.
